Following End of Generation (EoG), both reactors on site are scheduled to shut down, leading to an increased reliance on auxiliary boilers to provide steam for the station’s H&V systems. These systems play a vital role in preventing plant degradation and maintaining suitable conditions for personnel. The Essential Defueling Reactor Safety Case (NP/SC 7782) defines the critical function and reliability requirements of H&V systems in supporting sage and effective defueling operations.
Due to challenges associated with equipment obsolescence and overdue maintenance, new replacement control schemes are being developed for several key H&V systems, including:
- Pressure Vessel Mini-Annulus
- Pile Cap & Upper Pile Cap
- Standpipe
- Ponds & Flasking
